1. Do I need to bring my own instrument?

Yes. The University Of Western Ontario generously supplies the percussion equipment for our bands and orchestras at IMC and Yamaha Canada supplies the pianos for "The" Jazz Camp, but all other musicians are responsible for providing their own equipment.

2. Are there any drum sets at IMC?

Jazz Camp and Camp Rock drummers must bring their own set. Any percussionists hoping to play in the IMC Jazz Band (Week Two) should bring their own kit to camp. Label all parts.

3. Can I play electric bass at IMC?

While bass players often choose to use an electric bass when playing with the Jazz Band at IMC, all IMC bass players must bring an acoustic Double Bass (with bow) to camp.

4. How much money do I need to bring to camp?

Campers do not HAVE to bring any money to camp. All meals, concerts, recreational activities (water-skiing, windsurfing, tennis, etc.) and social events are included in the camp fee. Campers may CHOOSE to bring some money to purchase snacks (soft drinks, chocolate bars, chips, etc.) from the tuck shop.

5. Can campers phone home while at camp?

There are pay phones available for camper use during free time so that campers can call home to assure anxious parents that they're having a great time! CELL PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED AT CAMP.

6. What time should I arrive?

There will be an introductory meeting for all campers at 2:00 pm on the first day. Those driving to camp should plan to arrive between 12:30 and 1:30 pm. Be sure to have lunch before you arrive.

7. Who will be in my cabin?

Campers are assigned to cabins with other campers of similar age. If you would like to request a certain cabin-mate please contact or write to mom.

8. Who decides what band or orchestra I'll be in?

On the first day, every camper will play a short audition for the faculty members. The faculty members will then assign campers to the band or orchestra which best suits their playing level

9. What should I play for my audition?

This is not a TEST! Choose a short, unaccompanied piece that will best show the faculty the level of music you are most comfortable playing.

10. What time should my parents pick me up on the last day?
Camp Rock parents picking their campers up should arrive between 11:00 am and noon on Friday, August 22nd. Jazz Camp parents should join us for the jazz combo concert at 1:30 and then leave at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 22nd. IMC campers, your parents won't want to miss hearing you perform in our final concert on August 31st. The Symphony & Tea Concert begins at 1:00 and will finish at approximately 4:00 pm. The Musical Theatre performance will begin at 1:30 pm and finish at approximately 3:15 pm.

11. Where is the camp and how do I get there?
You can take the bus from Toronto (Both Weeks) or Hamilton (Week Two only) or you can arrange to be driven to camp.
